Creative Praise As A Gift Of Worship Service For God And His People
Just as each one of you has received a special gift [a spiritual talent, an ability graciously given by God], employ it in serving one another as [is appropriate for] good stewards of God’s multi-faceted grace [faithfully using the diverse, varied gifts and abilities granted to Christians by God’s unmerited favor]. 1 Peter 4:10Amplified Bible (AMP)
Looked at in context, this Scripture then goes on to talk about the gifts of speaking for God and the gift of serving God, and both gifts are empowered by God's Spirit and His energy. The result is that God is glorified because the Body of Christ is served in the power of God's
love and strength. It is not done through the strength of man or for the glory of man.
Even though worship service is not explicitly mentioned, it is valid to include the praise or worship ministry within the multi-faceted service ministry. There are those on the worship team who are skilled with the sound system and God can give strength and gifting for that. Others are given strength to serve as instrumentalists or song leaders. Others are given grace and strength to be set up crew members, etc., etc., and etc.
Sometimes the supernatural gifting is more evident than at other times. There is a woman I know who was a worship leader in a prison. She was given a gifting for a particular occasion of ministry where she could play an instrument beautifully without ever learning how to play. The gift for that was only given for a particular worship service and she can not go to that instrument now and play it at her own will since the ability was given by God's strength and gifting for a particular time.
There are those who are specially gifted at times with songs from the Lord through which they praise the Lord and at the same time they minister teaching and admonishment to others. "Let the message of Christ dwell among you richly as you teach and admonish one another with all wisdom through psalms, hymns, and songs from the Spirit, singing to God with gratitude in your hearts." Colossians 3:16 - New International Version
Sometimes we mistake talent for supernatural gifting. There are a lot of worship leaders who are skilled song leaders and they have natural talent that they were born with. They are using this talent for God's glory and that is wonderful and it is a blessing to the Body of Christ. When they start singing and strumming, God gives extra empowerment to them so that God is glorified in adding his special praise anointing to the ministry of that person.
There are also praise dancers and those who have skill with praise dancing flags who trust the Lord to "carry them along" in their performance to the Most High, and in front of the Body of Christ. They begin their praise movements, and the Holy Spirit empowers those movements with His ideas and with His energy. This is all done for God's glory and these praise dancers are also part of the service ministry and are given God's grace to perform.
King David had this gifting during the time he accompanied the Ark of the Covenant to Jerusalem. David’s leaping and dancing before the Lord in 2 Samuel 6:14–16 is one of the most memorable moments of pure, unrestrained worship in Scripture. It’s true that, at the time, there wasn’t a specific scriptural precedent for that kind of expression. What David was doing seemed to break cultural and ritual boundaries—he was fully surrendered in his worship, and gifted with praise dance creativity for that special time.
It highlights the idea that passionate, spontaneous worship can flow from deep personal connection with God, and special gifting for the moment, not just from following prescribed rituals. David’s actions were from the heart and from special praise dance gifting, not driven by tradition or expectation, and it’s almost as if we can say that he was gifted with a new way to express his love and devotion to Father God.
